Claret" is a term that refers to dry, red Bordeaux style wines. Frequently, the word signifies a bit lighter expression than heavily oaked Bordeaux's. It derives from "clairet," the name for a certain type of light red wine that was exported from Bordeaux in the Middle Ages and became quite popular in England. The Grove Claret is estate grown. This medium bodied, lightly oaked red wine is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc with a little Tempranillo and Sangiovese thrown in. Wine expresses a balance of fruit making it excellent with steak, lamb, pork or chocolate. Medal winner in the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Wine Competition.
